Following his abdication and after marrying Wallis Simpson in 1937, the Duke of Windsor, as he was then, was appointed Governor of the Bahamas. The Bahamas, officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, today under the monarchy of Queen Elizabeth II, was where the couple lived and worked for five years.

Whilst the Governor’s Mansion, where they were to ultimately reside, underwent a refurbishment the couple lived in Sigrist House.
