Hydra is an island located in the Argosaronic Gulf, close to Athens (35 nautical miles from the port of Piraeus) and Peloponnese (reachable from Porto Heli and Ermioni), reachable via flying dolphins or water taxis within less than two hours.

Hydra is a very picturesque island with unique architecture that captivates and impresses the eye of the visitor from the first sight. Stately mansions of famous captains and cobble stone streets have attracted and inspired many artists from all over the world, such as the Nobel award winners poets George Seferis and Odysseas Elytis, the singer and writer Leonard Cohen, the American painter Peter Nolan, and many more. Hydra has also been the filming location of famous movies, like “The Boy on a Dolphin” with Sophia Lauren and “Phaedra” with Melina Mercouri. Nowadays, Hydra hosts performances, workshops and exhibitions on a yearly basis, safeguarding its identity as a cultural destination, encouraging creativity.

In compliance with the island’s naval tradition, sailing races take place twice a year, while annual events are organized in memory of distinctive Admirals of the island. Moreover, in Hydra there is a Diving Center, organizing diving excursions in the crystal clear waters that surround the island. Easter is also celebrated in a more naval way, as according to a local custom the Epitaph is immersed in the sea.

The romantic tranquility of the island is further enhanced by the fact that there are no wheeled vehicles allowed, so transportation takes place only by donkeys or boats. In Hydra there are many Monasteries and churches worth visiting, as well as a small Ecclesiastic and Byzantine Museum. Due to its harmony the island is famous as a wedding destination among its appreciators.
